4 Books Business Majors Must Absolutely Read

Corporate Reading List: If You’re a Business Major, You Have To Read These Books

The reading list you’ll need to excel in the business world

Some of the best books I’ve read have been recommended to me by professors in business school throughout the years. Whether you’re looking to invest like a pro or get an A+ in your applied corporate finance course, or simply wanting to become more in tune with the corporate person within, check out the following recommendations.

  1. Investing by Robert HagstromInvesting is one of my favourites. Hagstrom explores the importance of appreciating and understanding other disciplines. So, if you’re a finance bro and call those in Arts, arts and farts, the joke’s on you! All love here…Hagstrom discusses certain schools of thought from science to art and relates it back to the world of investing. #PolymathFTW

  2. The Outliers by Malcolm GladwellGladwell is beloved author. This book is particularly special. A friend gifted it to me one Christmas, and I can’t get over how it’s changed my perspective on life and the probability of success. Think success is attributed at the individual? Eh, maybe. But maybe not. Outliers in history have a couple of nodes in common.

  3. Own the Room by Jen SuJen Su discusses emotional intelligence in a different light. Own the room is a classic for those looking to understand the power they have within themselves to influence, command and empower themselves and those around. It’s a modern reminder of “How to Win Friends and Influence People”.

  4. Thinking Fast & Slow by Daniel KahnemanOk, so…this one is kinda boring. WAIT. I included it here because while it’s dry, it’s one of those books you’ll come across in business, classes, conferences, interviews and good to speak to. It’s more on the philosophical side, in terms of how we process information, and a little too “Principles” for me but I’m glad I can provide my own perspective on it.
