The Corporate Diary Soundtrack

The official playlist features a set of songs that have been included on the YouTube segment, the blog, and whose words have inspired much of the content.

I know shorty and she doesn't want no slow song

Had a man last year, life goes on

Haven't let that thing loose, girl, in so long

You've been inside, know you like to lay low

I've been peepin' what you bringin' to the table

Workin' hard, girl, everything paid for

First, last phone bill, car note, cable

With your phone out, gotta hit them angles

With your phone out, snappin' like you Fabo

And you showin' off, but it's alright

And you showin' off, but it's alright (alright!)

It's a short life, yeah

The Inspiration Behind CD’s Soundtrack

I remember listening to Drake’s “Nice for What” during night outs and thinking…”Yeah! This is why I work so hard”. My company paid my phone bill, my cable, and my car rides. I also bought myself a Benz - not a Baby Benz but when that line would come up, I’d sing it so proudly, haha. It felt incredible knowing that I didn’t need a man to pay for my things - I was paying for them myself and if I wanted to go out with my friends and party, why not show it off a little.

On a not so superficial note, Thursdays are the days when consultants fly out to go home from whatever city their client is in. Jess Glynne’s “Thursday - Acoustic” was the song I’d listen and cry to on the plane rides home. I know - super dramatic. Micro-aggressions aren’t so fun, either. I often didn’t wear makeup on those days, and in the most vulnerable state, tired of what my life looked like at the time, this song allowed me to just vent - let it out. It got me through a tough year. I wasn’t surrounded by the best people nor the best environment and felt very lost with myself.

Lastly, I love William Singe. He’s got a gorgeous voice and from Oxford to New York City, I would listen to his cover of 679. This famous line is what inspired the playlist.

No they can’t control me. All these suits sitting acting like they know me

I hope you enjoy.

Bonus: Check out my 2012 original, “Can We Go Back”. Re-released a couple of days ago.
