The Corporate Diary Interviews Go Live on IG Amidst COVID-19

I started The Corporate Diary in 2016 . At the time, being a woman in business was starting to be cool...From Sophia Amoruso coining the word "girlboss" to the "me too" movement across the film, tech and finance industry, things were changing. The content on YouTube, however, lacked the same representation.

I wanted to tell the stories of Meagan Prins, the investment banker at Goldman Sachs in New York City; Annie Cao who aspires to a career in diplomacy; Andrea Wood at EA Games and what it's like to be a woman in the video game industry; Steph Hon, the female founder of a travel and beauty startup who had to raise money.

I'm not waiting to tell the stories of women breaking glass ceilings in similar fields. Hear from incredible women in Venture Capital, Entrepreneurship, Art/Design, Management Consulting, Social Impact & Sustainability, and more. Watch the past interviews on IGTV (@katgarciaonline) and tune in for new interviews coming soon on INSTAGRAM LIVE (~12pm EST).

Check out some of the interviews below or on The Corporate Diary, on YouTube. Some of the incredible women include:

  • Stephanie Manning Cohen (Director of Platform, Lerer Hippeau VC)

  • Maria Markina (Co-Founder, Athena Club)

  • Jolene Delisle (Founder, The Working Assembly)

  • Julia Rudlin (Growth Director

  • Terminal & Former Head of Growth at Vine / Twitter)

  • Helena Merk (Founder of Glimpse / YC Fellow 2020)

  • Sabrina Gheissari (Product Manager at Divison Of & Former Trader at Brown Brothers Harriman)

What All These Women Have in Common

With some of these interviews already having kicked off, I’m bewildered by the intricate beauty these women possess in and out. There’s something special about women in business. There’s always a story. Whether they freely discuss their ups and downs or just scratch the surface, there’s much depth behind the minds of these ladies. One of the questions I’ve enjoyed asking the most is “What is the change you hope to see for women or by women, in the world?”. The answers vary substantially, and they usually reveal much about the person’s path. Product Manager, Molly McGrath from BCG Digital Ventures shared:

There are these small interactions we have at work. A change I wish to see if how we describe others at work and their behaviour. An example of that may be - especially when it comes to gender - if describing a woman at work, we’ll say '‘she’s so emotional” versus when describing a man, we’ll say “he’s so passionate!” It’s something I’ve noticed. There are also these takedowns of female CEOs.

Others took this question in a different direction and discussed how women should seek to treat other women differently than they do today - alluding to generational feminism and white feminism.

I’m floored just thinking about the conversions we’ve shared on The Corporate Diary recent and it’s a reminder than we all have a voice, and telling our personal stories on the common thread of women openly discussing their paths, is the a vehicle forward.

What’s the change you wish to see? Comment below.
